CONFIRMATION: Chris Evans is CAPTAIN AMERICA

It’s official, and I suppose (especially considering some of the unusual choices on the list) that this is pretty acceptable.  HeatVisionBlog confirmed today that Chris Evans will play Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America in THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA.  They say say sources report Evans accepted Marvel’s offer, and now it’s just down to finalizing the last few details.  As before, neither Marvel nor CAA (who reps Evans) have commented on the matter.  The offer includes a 9-picture deal and low pay of $300,000 – at least that’s low considering by Hollywood standards considering the scope of this film.  As you may or may not know, Chris previously played Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) in two FANTASTIC FOUR movies, and has connections with other comic book movies past and present, including the upcoming THE LOSERS and SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD.  However, this is easily the most high-profile comic book part the actor has taken on, and will definitely change things for him as far as media attention goes.

I like Chris Evans, he has a lot of charm and charisma, and did a pretty good job playing Johnny Storm.  That said, I’ve always seen him as more of a young and cocky persona, and that’s not exactly fitting for Captain America.  I do think he can pull it off, but it will definitely be a different side of him than we’re used to seeing.  I have faith in director Joe Johnston too, and I’m betting his talent combined with Chris Evans’ abilities will produce something really cool.  Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
