ROOFMAN interview with writer/director Derek Cianfrance on crafting a true crime caper love story

I last spoke to writer/director Derek Cianfrance in 2012 for his movie THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES. He’s made a few films since then, some that he’s directed, some that he’s written, and some that he’s produced, but while his theatrical output is sometimes limited, I always find his work to be interesting and worth a look. His newest film ROOFMAN draws from the true story of Jeffrey Manchester, a man who saw some success as a thief, but more notably was sentenced to prison, escaped from it, and spent six month secretly living inside a Toys R Us… now THAT is an interesting story. The film is also a departure from Cianfrance’s sometimes darker tone, showing his comedic chops, and delivering one of the best productions of the year. I had a chance to catch up with Derek during his recent Dallas press tour, and you can watch that interview below. ROOFMAN opens October 10th, and is definitely a film you should see in theaters. My thanks for Grady May for editing this interview, and to Paramount Pictures for arranging it.
