If you missed the previous trailer for director David Fincher’s adaptation of the wildly popular Swedish mystery THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, you can still see it here. But today there’s a new trailer almost four minutes long, and it’s pretty spectacular. I’ve seen the original, and can honestly say Fincher has captured the mood and feel of it, all while adding his own signature touch. With a screenplay by Steve Zallian, this take features Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara in the leads, with an excellent supporting cast including Stellan Skarsgård, Robin Wright, Max von Sydow, Christopher Plummer, Joely Richardson, Embeth Davidtz, Steven Berkoff, David Dencik, Alexandra Daddario, Goran Visnjic, and Julian Sands. If you’ve never seen the original, you really should, as it’s better made and more engrossing than most American films of its type, and a star-making performance by the engaging Noomi Rapace as “Lisbeth Salander”, the title role. It also spawned two theatrical sequels, though the original remains the best of the three. The original film is dark and gritty, and perfect source material for THE SOCIAL NETWORK director to mine from. I just hope there’s at least a few noticeable differences, as I have such a strong appreciation for the Swedish production, and I’m not necessarily hoping for a shot for shot remake, but rather a sincere interpretation of what came before. This new lengthy trailer gives me so much hope. There’s familiar stuff in there, but just enough little changes I think it will stand on its own… and I’m loving Craig and Mara in this – and dig that killer music by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, collaborating again hot off the heels of THE SOCIAL NETWORK sountrack.
