We’re keeping a close eye on THE THING prequel, which is only a few weeks from release, and today there’s a new red band trailer that should give you an idea of what to expect from the creature effect. It’s a quick preview, but pretty effective regardless. The movie features Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Eric Christian Olsen, Joel Edgerton, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ulrich Thomsen, Kim Bubbs, Trond Espen Seim, Stig Henrik Hoff, Jonathan Walker, and Carsten Bjørnlund. Said to be based on John Carpenter’s 1982 version of THE THING, this version is directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. (his first big film)

Most importantly, the screenplay is written by Ronald D. Moore, who gave us the awesome updating of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. and some of the best STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE episodes.  Check out the red band trailer below and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists.

THE THING opens October 14, 2011
