AVATAR grosses over $1 Billion Worldwide. Dang.

James Cameron’s big-budget spectacular has grossed just over $1 Billion (yes, with a “B”) dollars in Worldwide ticket sales.  It earned $1.02 Billion to be exact.  It takes the top spot during the most successful Chistmas holiday movie season earnings ever.  AVATAR is (so far) still just behind James Cameron’s TITANIC (which earned $1.8 Billion), PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN’S CHEST (with $1.07 Billion), and reigning champion THE LORD OF THE RINGS: RETURN OF THE KING (with $1.12 Billion) – making AVATAR the 4th highest grossing film of all time.  With its current earning schedule, it’s such to take the lead before all is said and done.  Overseas ticket sales alone account for $670 Million in just 21 days.

The Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law SHERLOCK HOLMES movies slipped 38% over the weekend, though so far has made a respectable $140 Million domestically in the first 10 days of release.  Overseas numbers brought in just over $88 Million, bringing the total to $229 Million – safe to say the sequel is coming.
