Chances are by now you’ve at least heard of ATTACK THE BLOCK, the film festival favorite from writer/director Joe Cornish. Edgar Wright (SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD) produced the flick, which follows a group of nefarious youths who fight back against an alien invasion in South London. The cast is made up of mostly new or unfamiliar faces (at least to American audiences), though Edgar Wright regular Nick Frost shows his friendly mug throughout the tale. Luke Treadaway and Jodie Whittaker turn is fairly solid performances, but it’s newcomer John Boyega who steals the show as the most bold of the youths named “Moses” – he’s essentially the lead character. The film is a lot of fun, but it will be interesting to see how American audiences take to it. For one thing the style in which the kids speak is rather hard for Americans to understand, as it’s been one of the biggest complaints to come out of screenings. But there’s no denying the brilliance of low-budget filmmaking going on here. Check out the 7-minute age-restricted clip below for a taste of what to expect, courtesy of Myspace (remember them?) – please note, there is some gore here and there, and it’s also a little spoiler-ish toward the fate of two major characters in the film. Watch at your own risk.

ATTACK THE BLOCK in now playing in select cities, opens in more this weekend.
