SDCC 2011: COWBOYS & ALIENS World Premiere red carpet video interviews

This year at San Diego Comic-Con, I was invited by Universal Pictures to attend the World Premiere screening of director Jon Favreau’s new movie COWBOYS & ALIENS (my review is HERE).  Initially I was a little let down I wasn’t asked to be on the red carpet for interviews, then mere days before the event I received an e-mail saying I had been approved.  I should preface this with a little story.  A few weeks back I posted a C&A poster image by famed illustrator Drew Struzan, which was gorgeous as all of Drew’s work tends to be.  At this time I was told this poster had been rejected by Universal.  After posting it in the evening hours, I found myself getting frantically contacted in just about every form (e-mail, Facebook, Twitter) by my contact at Universal, asking me to take it down.  Then I got a direct message from Jon Favreau, asking me to not post it, as they had special plans for it after all.  Turns out the poster was going to be used as a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive item for fans.  With the show over, I’ve posted it below, as now I can.

So Saturday evening I left the convention early and headed to the San Diego Civic Center, which is normally home to operas… not movies.  They had converted it to show the film, allowing them to get the maximum number of fans through the doors.  But more impressive than that was the turnout of talent.  Literally EVERYONE was there – Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Jon Favreau, executive producer Steven Spielberg, producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, writers Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and just about every actor with a line of dialouge in the film.  Sadly, most of the bigger names skipped a majority of the journalists (including myself) on the carpet – I don’t think Spielberg talked to anyone, though he did pose for photographers.  I did manage to snag a few interviews though, and we’ve compiled some video for you to check out below.  The talent I speak to in order of appearance includes ILM animation supervisor Marc Chu, IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA‘s Charlie Day (who isn’t in the film but walked the carpet), C&A creator Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, Julio Cedillo (Bronc in the movie), writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, Buck Taylor (the first baddie to show up in the film), Noah Ringer (Emmett Taggart in the movie), director Jon Favreau, and Keith Carradine (Sheriff John Taggart in the film).  Check it out below.  Big thanks to Lindsey at Universal, and all the fine folks who stopped to talk with us.  Do you think I’ll get that signed poster Jon promised?  I hope so!  Got a space on my wall all picked out.  Side note – later that night I walked out of a club housing the Entertainment Weekly party behind Favreau, and “Pick Up The Pieces” was playing over the loudspeakers… we’re so money, baby.

COWBOYS & ALIENS is now open everywhere.
