Trailer and poster for Renny Harlin’s latest – 5 DAYS OF WAR

Renny Harlin may not be everyone’s cup of tea as far as directors go, but I’ve always enjoyed his work, maybe from a guilty pleasure perspective. DIE HARD 2 was a fun sequel, THE ADVENTURES OF FORD FAIRLANE is a misunderstood comedy classic, CLIFFHANGER is one of Sylverster Stallone’s best action flicks, THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT is probably Geena Davis’ best film ever made, and DEEP BLUE SEA which I still say is easily the most entertaining “shark attack” movie since the original JAWS. Harlin has turned in quite a few classics in his day, though some of his films such as CUTTHROAT ISLAND, MINDHUNTERS, EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING, THE COVENANT, and 12 ROUNDS leave a bit to be desired. His newest effort is 5 DAYS OF WAR, which stars Rupert Friend, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Richard Coyle, Andy Garcia, and Val Kilmer. The trailer looks pretty intense, and a bit expensive from a production standpoint, though I can’t say I’ve heard anything about it until now. This could be a return to greatness for Harlin, if it’s promoted properly. The poster (above) is not the best, but hopefully there’s still time to produce something more enticing to audiences. Check out the trailer below and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

A drama set centered around the war between Russia and Georgia, and focused on an American journalist, his cameraman, and a Georgian native who become caught in the crossfire.

5 DAYS OF WAR opens in select theaters August 19, 2011
