I’m still sifting through video and whatnot from this year’s amazing Dallas International Film Festival, but a few clips I wanted to make sure I posted before tomorrow night (if you live in Dallas you better be joining us) were my brief interviews with the one and only Larry Hagman. It was a bit of a last-minute addition having Larry and Peter Fonda as special presenters for the DIFF award ceremony, held at Union Station in Downtown Dallas, but what a great surprise. Hagman’s appearance was perhaps even more fitting as he’s getting ready to start shooting for the new DALLAS series, once again playing J.R. Ewing, one of television’s most beloved villains. Larry was only booked for one or two interviews before the award presentation, and we weren’t one of the lucky ones to get him… but in a strange turn of events, he stepped out on the patio where we were set up, took a seat and said “We here to talk?” Me, being the honest guy that I am, said “Actually Larry, I wasn’t one of the people who got picked to interview you, though I wish I had been.” And he said, “Well we’re here now, aren’t we? Let’s talk!” Who am I to say no to that? So the first video is my brief chat with Mr. Hagman, in which he hints at what we can expect from the new DALLAS show. I purposely cut out chat short, as the film festival staff were glaring at me through the window, and I didn’t want to burn any bridges. But we later caught up with Larry again on the red carpet just before the awards. Check out both vids below, starting with the rooftop chat. Let me tell ya, you haven’t lived until you’ve fist bumped J.R. in Dallas… I’ll check that off the bucket list.
And here’s Larry on the red carpet just before the award ceremony at Union Station in Downtown Dallas.
If you live in DFW, on April 24, come see Larry in person at the Texas Theatre!
W O W !! I love Larry. Mark, you are winning at life. Keep up the good work. And great job with the camera operator. That second video is so up close and personal it makes you feel as if you are there with him. This is the first I have heard of the new Dallas series and I can not wait. I hope they have him at the Dallas Cowboys stadium or something. Dallas has changed a lot since the show went off the air. And man, I was addicted to Knot’s Landing too.
I loved that JR was turned into a regular. It really set up mythic storytelling with the Odin type father, Bobby as Thor and JR as Loki. The show is classic myth.
Nicely played, Mr. Walters. Nicely played.
