The 83rd Annual Academy Awards (2011) – list of winners

.

Well the big night has come and gone, and it’s been an interesting Oscars to say the least. The hosting duo of James Franco and Anne Hathaway was mostly a pleasing experiment, though I couldn’t help being overcome with comfortable nostalgia when Billy Crystal made his all too brief appearance. For those not in the Dallas area, we should note that we once again co-hosted a BIG Oscar watching party, along with RedCarpetCrash.com, AFFD.org, and MungleShow.com – this year at the Angelika Dallas theater. Safe to say it was a success, as we filled two houses with enthusiastic viewer, and gave away thousands of dollars of prizes… just about everyone walked away with something cool, thanks to our wonderful sponsors. This year’s Academy Awards held a few surprises for some, particularly in some of the bigger categories. Last year I called EVERY major category dead on, but 2011 was a bit different. Though I was spot on with the Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress categories, and Best Actress, I missed on Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Picture… all of went which to the Weinstein’s horse in the race. I did however excel in the technical award predictions, so I guess it’s a balance that way. Check out the complete winners list below, including notations for my original picks posted back in January.  Strangely absent in this year’s “In Memoriam” segment, Corey Haim (THE LOST BOYS) and Glenn Shadix (BEETLEJUICE) – both of who contributed memorable performances in film. What did you think about this year’s champions? Agree or disagree? Tell us in the comments.
