Since Arnold Schwarzenegger has left the office of Governor of California, he’s obviously available to return to movies, should he wish it… and he’s already indicated that he wants to do just that, telling his agents and publicists to start actively pursuing roles. Deadline has posted an interesting article, indicating that THE TERMINATOR franchise may be Arnie’s foot back in the Hollywood door. It appears Universal Pictures is looking for a new project which Justin Lin (director of the last three THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS films, including the upcoming FAST FIVE) could take on for the studio, possibly paired with screenwriter Chris Morgan (Lin’s script man for the three FAST films and screenwriter for WANTED).
Makes sense that Arnold would want to “be back” with a recognizable franchise, but considering his ever-so-obvious aged look these days, what role would he play? A broken down terminator? An early test model? The scientist who created the terminator look? Wait, have we already seen that guy? I’m lost. Then there’s the last two TERMINATOR movies to think about. Despite my own positive feelings toward it, a lot of people didn’t care for TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES, and I can hardly find anyone that truly enjoyed the McG directed/Christian Bale starring TERMINATOR: SALVATION, which just seemed to be all style and no substance. Is this franchise even capable of being saved at this point? Oh no, I just got a really scary visual in the vein of TRON: Legacy of a CGI youthful Arnie as as the terminator… please God, no one wants that. We got a glimpse of it in the last film, and it was only moderately acceptable. Then again, maybe if there’s lots of smoke and mirrors (literally) it might work. What are your thoughts? Would you pay to see Schwarzenegger in a new TERMINATOR film? Would you pay NOT to see it? Tell us in the comments!
The cgi Arnie in the last film looked decent. Not sure how I feel about a full film of that. I think I’d be OK with it.
Maybe the new terminator movie should go the Polar Express route. Problem solved.
