DIE HARD 5 moves forward with HALO commercial director Noam Murro attached

Bruce Willis hasn’t been secretive about wanting to do another DIE HARD movie, which would be the fifth in the franchise, but outside of enthusiastic talk there’s been little forward movement on the project… until now.  Deadline is reporting that 20th Century Fox is moving DIE HARD 5 into production, and has attached Noam Murro (SMART PEOPLE) to direct and Skip Woods (THE A-TEAM) to write the script.  Murro’s only notable film credit in the director’s chair is SMART PEOPLE, which starred Dennis Quaid, Sarah Jessica Parker, Thomas Haden Church and Ellen Page.  That film received only lukewarm reaction from critics, but then again it’s a very different kind of movie.  But the real reason Fox took interest in Murro is due to his rather memorable and impressive commercials for the video game HALO: REACH, including the “Deliver Hope” trailer below, and the “Birth of a Spartan” spot as well.

He also directed this spot for Sony…

Then there’s Skip Woods, who has penned many big budget flicks including X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE and HITMAN… he also wrote SWORDFISH, but let’s not dwell on that.  Interesting thing about Woods is some of the controversy surrounding the idea that he’s not even a real name.  Apparently finding a photo of him is next to impossible, and there’s even belief that the name “Skip Woods” may in fact be a fake name for a more prominent Hollywood writer.  I’m not in any way trying to fuel those rumors, but they’re out there.

But before all you John McClane fans get too terribly excited, word has it that Bruce Willis has still not struck a deal with the studio, though it’s expected he would.  Willis has gone on record (even in an interview with us) saying that he’d do another DIE HARD in a heartbeat, so don’t be surprised if his committal is the next big announcement made.  The Len Wiseman-directed fourth outing LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD grossed just under $400 million worldwide in 2007.

Want my advice, Fox?  Bring back Sergeant Al Powell!  Reginald Veljohnson!  The idea of him and Willis together on the big screen again would make me buy a ticket sight unseen.  What do you guys think?  Tell us in the comments!
