Trailer and poster for THE MUSIC NEVER STOPPED, starring J.K. Simmons and Lou Taylor Pucci

There’s only one thing wrong with J.K. Simmons that I can think of, and that is the fact he isn’t given more leading roles… dramatic ones at that.  The guy is such a versatile actor, and has such a great presence, it’s a wonder someone in Hollywood hasn’t tried to make him a leading man a lot sooner.  The new film THE MUSIC NEVER STOPPED played at Sundance, and while it hasn’t been considered a standout movie from their lineup, the trailer certainly makes it look worth watching.  The cast also includes Lou Taylor Pucci (BROTHERHOOD) as Simmons son, Cara Seymour and Julia Ormond. I’m on board with this one if for no other reason than to see Simmons show his acting chops in a serious role. Nevermind that he’s the voice of the yellow M&M (yes, he is), just take a look at him in a whole new light.

The Music Never Stopped, based on the case study “The Last Hippie” by Dr. Oliver Sacks, M.D. (Awakenings), chronicles the journey of a father and son adjusting to cerebral trauma and a lifetime of missed opportunities. Through the music that embodied the generation gap of the 1960s, and working with music therapist Dianne Daly (Ormond), the film weaves the heartwarming progress of Henry (Simmons) and Gabriel (Pucci).

THE MUSIC NEVER STOPPED opens March 4, 2011
