VIDEO INTERVIEW: Danny Boyle talks 127 HOURS

.

.

In my journalistic career, I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing several directors, many of whom I greatly admire. But sadly I’ve missed out on talking with Danny Boyle multiple times. In 2002 when 28 DAYS LATER had just come out, while I was in London, I just missed meeting Danny by a day due to a previous obligation. In 2004 I missed out on talking to him for MILLIONS because I was juggling another series of interviews the same day, and ended up giving that opportunity to one of my writers. In 2007 Danny was scheduled to do a press tour for SUNSHINE, but it was later cancelled without a reason given. And in 2008 I got sick the day Danny was in town doing interviews for SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE… a day I truly regret, as that was perhaps his biggest film to date. So when I heard he was coming in town to do press for 127 HOURS, his newest movie based on the real life mountain climber Aron Ralston, I was determined to make this opportunity happen… and thankfully it did. The film 127 HOURS is (like all of Danny’s work) a sheer masterpiece in moviemaking. To take a scenario in which a man is caught inside a canyon for days on end, unbeknownst to anyone else, and slowly losing hope, let’s just say not every director could find a way to make that interesting and engaging for the audience. Boyle does just that, and turns in another terrific piece of cinema. Check out my (personally) long-awaited interview with Danny Boyle below, and be sure to see 127 HOURS for yourself – it’s easily one of my favorites for 2010.

127 HOURS is now open in select cities, opens November 12 in Dallas at Angelika Dallas and Angelika Plano
