DRIVE ANGRY 3D writer Todd Farmer and director Patrick Lussier attached to HELLRAISER reboot

There was a recent announcement that a HELLRAISER reboot was in the works, and that it might end up being PG-13… which needless to say met with great criticism from hardcore Clive Barker fans.  The idea of remaking the franchise for a new audience isn’t anything new, but today if comes closer to being a reality.  Collider is now reporting that MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D and DRIVE ANGRY 3D creative duo, director Patrick Lussier and (our good buddy)screenwriter Todd Farmer, will be taking over this project.  Bloody Disgusting confirms the report.  Dimension has yet to release any official details, or intentions toward how this would be handled.

I’m a big fan of MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D, not just because I know Todd, but mainly because it was the first live action film to successfully wow us with new 3-D technology, and it also represented a return to brutal and bloody big screen mainstream horror.  Now if this HELLRAISER redux ends up being PG-13, even I may not be able to defend it much.  I’m hoping with Patrick and Todd running the store, we’ll get something crazy and cool, and hopefully faithful enough to the tone and spirit of Clive Barker’s original idea.  I can tell you this about Todd: the man knows what works and what doesn’t, and he’s very respectful of the horror genre.  I doubt he or Patrick would butcher this if they can help it, so I’m cautiously optimistic about what we could see.  The big question now, outside of the rating issue, is whether or not we’ll see a new Pinhead, and what sort of role he’ll play in this new take.  Oh, and there’s probably a good chance this will be in 3D too.  What do you think about HELLRAISER getting remade?  Is this exciting news, or just another unwanted form of cinema CPR?  Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
