Confirmed: WATCHMEN director Zack Snyder will direct SUPERMAN

There’s been a lot of talk lately about potential directors for Warner Brothers/DC Comics’ intended reboot for SUPERMAN, including names like Matt Reeves (LET ME IN), Jonathan Liebesman (BATTLE: LOS ANGELES), Duncan Jones (MOON) and Tony Scott (UNSTOPPABLE).  But today Deadline is reporting that WATCHMEN and 300 director Zack Snyder has won the gig.  It’s said Snyder met with the studio and producers Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas.  And seriously, why not get a guy who successfully remade one of the greatest horror films of all time (DAWN OF THE DEAD), and currently has two beloved comic book film adaptations under his belt?  He’s also received heaps of praise for his work on LEGEND OF THE GUARDIANS, which many are calling the best use of 3D on the big screen to date.  David Goyer is still set to write this new take on Supes.  Will the title remain THE MAN OF STEEL?  We’ll see.  Zack confirmed that once he complete post production on his new film SUCKER PUNCH, he’s moving right into SUPERMAN, telling Deadline “I’ve been a big fan of the character for a long time, he’s definitely the king of all superheroes, he’s the one.  It’s early yet, but I can tell you that what David and Chris have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I’ve always felt he was kind of awesome. I’ll finish Sucker Punch and get right at it.”

I’m pretty happy with this.  I loved what Snyder did with WATCHMEN and 300.  In fact, I’ve loved everything the guy has done so far.  It’s a safe choice at least, in that the majority of fanboys out there will most likely be okay with it.  What do you think?  Is Snyder the right man for the job?  Tell us in the comments below.
