Gemma Arterton is a hot name in Hollywood now… so she’s quitting

Perhaps the best thing about PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME was Gemma Arterton… it certainly wasn’t Jake Gyllenhaal! Arterton first grabbed the attention of audience members as the ill-fated love interest of Daniel Craig’s second James Bond outing, QUANTUM OF SOLACE. Since then she’s popped up in big-budget films like PRINCE OF PERSIA and the CLASH OF THE TITANS remake, and smaller but critically-acclaimed projects like THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ALICE CREED and THE BOAT THAT ROCKED. She even has a new film by director Stephen Frears called TAMARA DREWE, in which she plays the title character. It’s safe to say she’s a hot name in Hollywood, and one of the hottest young actresses working in showbiz today. So what’s her next move? Um… quitting.

Now in a way, this is kind of refreshing, if not somewhat frustrating. According to website Prokerala, Arterton has decided to take a break from working on movies in order to spend more time with husband Stefano Catelli. The marriage is a relatively new one as well, as the couple was wed in June during a low-key ceremony in Spain. Catelli is a sales manager… of what I have no idea. Gemma was quoted to say, “I love married life and I decided it was about time I took a break from filming and working abroad so we can spend more time together.”

At the age of 24, many may feel Arterton is sabotaging her own career just as it’s really getting started. But she isn’t intending to completely leave behind her craft. Gemma did just sign on to star in Henrik Ibsens play “The Master Builder”, which begins its run at London’s Almeida Theatre starting in November. Sounds like that might be the only way to see her act for a while, as she was also quoted to say “I prefer working on stage actually.”

Why Gemma, why?
