EVIL DEAD RISE red band trailer – people really need to stop opening that darn book

When the EVIL DEAD reboot/remake hit theaters in 2013, it was a modest success, and did some pretty daring things for a modern horror film. You could tell the filmmakers intended to do a sequel to it sooner than later, especially after Bruce Campbell (yes, “Ash” in the original EVIL DEAD movies and ARMY OF DARKNESS) made a cameo appearance in the post-credits scene. But for some reason it’s taken nearly a decade for the franchise to continue. Check out the first trailer below for EVIL DEAD RISE, which shifts the location from the cabin in the woods to Los Angeles, in what appears to be an apartment complex. And instead of random friends, it’s circling around a family. The red band trailer looks pretty intense, and the new film is directed by Lee Cronin (THE HOLE IN THE GROUND), and stars Lily Sullivan (BARKSKINS), Alyssa Sutherland (VIKINGS), Morgan Davies (STORM BOY), Gabrielle Echols (REMINISCENCE) and introducing Nell Fisher (NORTHSPUR). This is produced by Rob Tapert ASH VS. THE EVIL DEAD, DON’T BREATHE) and executive produced by series creator and horror icon Sam Raimi and cult legend and “Ash” himself, Bruce Campbell, along with John Keville, Macdara Kelleher, Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Romel Adam and Victoria Palmieri. Tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Moving the action out of the woods and into the city, “Evil Dead Rise” tells a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sutherland and Sullivan, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.
