94th Annual Academy Awards – full nominees AND winners list for 2022 Oscars – were our guesses close?

94th Annual Academy Awards – full nominees AND winners list for 2022 Oscars – were our guesses close?

Okay, let’s get this out of the way. Yes, Chris Rock told a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith that was a tad bit sensitive… and yes, Will Smith walked on stage and not only slapped him, he also screamed from his seat “Keep my wife’s name out of your F&^KING mouth!!” … TWICE. Yes, that DID happen. And then Will won the Best Actor Oscar. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, the 2022 Academy Awards were held Sunday night on ABC, and below you can see the full list of nominees, along with our picks to win, and notation of who actually did win. We missed quite a few of the bigger categories this year, but it was wonderful seeing CODA win Best Supporting Actor and Best Picture, plus Best Adapted Screenplay. DUNE took home quite a few technical awards, and newcomer Ariana DeBose won Best Supporting Actress for her work in Steven Spielberg’s WEST SIDE STORY. Most of what was here was to be expected, but there were some glaring omissions in the actresses categories, such as both Ruth Negga and Tessa Thompson for PASSING, and Caitriona Balfe for BELFAST, and PASSING really did deserve a Best Picture nomination too. I also find it odd that Rachel Zegler didn’t get a Best Actress nom for WEST SIDE STORY… or even a seat to watch the show, but The Academy did what they could to make it right and had her as a presenter… she even made a pretty sharp joke about it when she took the stage. We had another good year for films even if people still aren’t quite ready to head back to theaters just yet…. were you surprised by the films that won? Think some got snubbed big time? Sound off in the comments below. ABC broadcast the show live on Sunday, March 27, 2022.

I always note, for what it’s worth, the picks defined below of what we think will win are not necessarily what we think should win, rather what we expect will win…
