Streaming services are really knocking it out of the park lately with original content, taking advantage of the fact that (evidently) many still aren’t ready to return to movie theaters just yet. Netflix has both barrels blazing with their new 2022 Movie Preview sizzle video, which contains brief clips of original films they’re premiering this year featuring big names like Daniel Craig, Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lopez, Henry Cavill, Ryan Reynolds, Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Jamie Foxx, Mark Wahlberg, Kevin Hart, Eddie Murphy, Jonah Hill, Adam Sandler, and so many more. But in a rather innovative way, this 3-minute preview also features an interesting technique, having the actors address you the viewer directly. This is particularly ambitious, as it likely meant ALL of the movies being shown here had to at some point shoot their actors just for this sizzle reel, so that almost every film appears to be aware of the viewer and courting them directly. And I gotta say, there’s a lot of impressive-looking content here. Check it out below and see if you aren’t intrigued.
Get ready for pulse-pounding action with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans in The Gray Man, or an epic sci-fi adventure with Halle Berry in The Mothership. Mystery and sleuthing abound with Daniel Craig back in the follow-up to Rian Johnson’s Knives Out, and Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill return as sibling detectives in Enola Holmes 2. Take in a double feature with Adam Sandler (Hustle and Spaceman), and Jamie Foxx (Day Shift and They Cloned Tyrone), or crack up with comedic duos Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy (You People), Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg (Me Time), and a stop-motion reunion with Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key (Wendell & Wild).
For films the whole family can enjoy, feel like a kid again with Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo and Zoe SaldaƱa in The Adam Project. Take a fantastical journey with the animated film The Sea Beast, Slumberland starring Jason Momoa, and The School for Good and Evil with Charlize Theron and Kerry Washington. Sing along with Lashana Lynch and Emma Thompson in Roald Dahl’s Matilda.
