COPSHOP trailer – Gerard Butler & Frank Grillo fight to the death in prison for Joe Carnahan

Director Joe Carnahan (THE A-TEAM) is back with COPSHOP, a sort of small-scale action thriller starring Frank Grillo as a man with a price on his hear who gets intentionally arrested to avoid getting taken out. Then another man played by Gerard Butler gets intentionally arrested with the intention of killing Grillo. Sounds simple enough, right? But then other assassins start coming for Grillo’s character, and very soon it looks like both men are running out of time. There are certainly similarities between this and John Carpenter’s classic ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13, but I also can’t help thinking about the recent Guy Ritchie crime thriller WRATH OF MAN starring Jason Statham, which is set largely inside a armored car depot that looks awfully similar to a prison… and both films are a normally big budget director taking on what feels like a smaller scale story. The cast of COPSHOP also features Toby Huss and Alexis Louder (THE TOMORROW WAR). Check out the trailer below and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Tearing through the Nevada desert in a bullet-ridden Crown Vic, wily con artist Teddy Murretto (Frank Grillo) hatches a desperate plan to hide out from lethal hitman Bob Viddick (Gerard Butler): He sucker-punches rookie officer Valerie Young (Alexis Louder) to get himself arrested and locked up in a small-town police station. Jail can’t protect Murretto for long, and Viddick schemes his own way into detention, biding his time in a nearby cell until he can complete his mission. When the arrival of a competing assassin (Toby Huss) ignites all-out mayhem, mounting threats force Viddick to get creative if he wants to finish the job and escape the explosive situation.

COPSHOP hits theaters on September 17, 2021
