When THE BIG LEBOWSKI hit theaters 22 years ago, one of the more memorable characters (in a film filled with memorable characters) was Jesus Quintana, played rather brilliantly by the great John Turturro. For many years after, there was talk of Jesus returning in some form or another, at one point perhaps even as a Coen Brothers-helmed film, but eventually it ended with the Coens turning over permission directly to Turturro to do his own story featuring the character, only without their involvement. The end result is the new movie THE JESUS ROLLS, which catches up with Quintana several years later, though not tied in with THE BIG LEBOWSKI universe, so far as we can tell. This production has actually been four years in the making, at one point using the title GOING PLACES. This March, moviegoers will have a chance to see the final product both in theaters and On Demand. The cast also includes Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tautou, Christopher Walken, Jon Hamm, Pete Davidson, J.B. Smoove, Michael Badalucco, Tim Blake Nelson, and Susan Sarandon. Hours after being released from prison for good behavior, Jesus Quintana (John Turturro) reunites with his best friend and fellow underachiever Petey (Bobby Cannavale). In the first in a series of rapidly escalating bad decisions, they steal a vintage car parked in front of an upscale salon and hit the road for a no-holds-barred joyride — until the car’s gun-toting owner (Jon Hamm) catches up with them, wounding Petey. Fleeing the scene with fiercely free-spirited shampooist Marie (Audrey Tautou), Jesus and Petey continue their adventure in a series of stolen cars, cementing their partnership with an epic petty-crime spree and a three-way romance.
