91st Annual Academy Awards – full WINNERS list for 2019 Oscars vs. our predictions to win

91st Annual Academy Awards – full WINNERS list for 2019 Oscars vs. our predictions to win

If you missed the 2019 Academy Awards which aired Sunday night on ABC, not to worry, we have the full list of Oscar winners below, and you can see how well we did on our predictions. Most of the major categories played out as expected, but we saw a few surprises, particularly with Olivia Colman winning Best Actress – she was terrific in THE FAVOURITE, but it seemed like many (us included) expected Glenn Close was a lock for that category. Other than Colman’s surprise win, we actually did pretty well, only missing a few of the technical awards, and Documentary Short and Live Action Short categories. Who would have thought a year ago that BLACK PANTHER would be up for an Academy Award?! We again saw several people of color and foreign personalities being represented in many categories, particularly Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay! This is a continuing result of 2016’s #OscarsSoWhite controversy, and perhaps 2017’s Best Picture win for MOONLIGHT opened a few eyes as well, though in my opinion it has more to do with the much improved film selections in the past few years than anything else. There are some historic nominations this year, it’s good to see these categories showing more diversity without feeling forced, these folks earned these accolades! Hollywood also seems to be once again embracing Alfonso Cuarón this year, as his movie ROMA was nominated for 10 awards, including Best Picture, and he was nominated for and won Best Director, plus there were noms for the film in Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Production Design and many more. Some great choices this time around, who would you have picked to win? Noticeable omissions in the Best Picture category included CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME? and IF BEALE STREET CAN TALK… did you watch? What moments blew you away? Tell us in the comments below. ABC broadcast the show live last night, Sunday, February 24, 2019.

I always note, for what it’s worth, the picks defined below of what we thought would win are not necessarily what we thought should win, rather what we expected to win…
