If you’re not familiar with the DC Comics title DOOM PATROL, it’s fairly understandable. The book has always been a sort fringe title over the years, with strong interest in the recent incarnation thanks largely to the writing of Gerard Way and the stellar art of Nick Derington, causing the book to frequently sell out at comic book stores. I can honestly say, I never expected these characters to get their own series, but heck, Archie Comics turned into an ultra serious murder mystery on the CW, so… get ready to meet Robotman, Elasti-Woman, Negative Man, Crazy Jane, and Cyborg. That last one is the same character seen in the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie, but not the same actor, and featuring a slightly different origin. And before you mention how the trailer resembles X-Men a little too much, it should be noted the Doom Patrol comics actually pre-dated X-Men in the comic book world. The team is led by Chief (played by the great Timothy Dalton), and the cast features Brendan Fraser (as Robotman), Matt Bomer (as Negative Man), April Bowlby (as Elasti-Woman), Diane Guerrero (as Crazy Jane), and Joivan Wade (as Cyborg). The villain they’re going up against is named Mr. Nobody, played by Alan Tudyk. I’m liking the look and feel here, which is very similar to the quirkyness of the comic books it’s based on. Check it out and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
DOOM PATROL reimagines one of DC’s most beloved groups of Super Heroes: Robotman aka Cliff Steele (BRENDAN FRASER), Negative Man aka Larry Trainor (MATT BOMER), Elasti-Woman aka Rita Farr (APRIL BOWLBY) and Crazy Jane (DIANE GUERRERO), led by modern-day mad scientist Niles Caulder aka The Chief (TIMOTHY DALTON). Each member of the Doom Patrol suffered a horrible accident that gave them superhuman abilities, but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found their purpose through The Chief, coming together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence. Following the mysterious disappearance of The Chief these reluctant heroes will find themselves in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg (JOIVAN WADE), who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of superpowered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them.
