MISS BALA trailer & poster – JANE THE VIRGIN’s Gina Rodriguez gets tough

Outside of a few voices in animated movies, Gina Rodriguez hasn’t had much of a film career (save for DEEPWATER HORIZON and ANNIHILATION), but that may be about to change. The star of the CW telenovela JANE THE VIRGIN shows a much tougher side in MISS BALA, playing a woman who must work undercover for the DEA to infiltrate a drug cartel, after those she cares most about end up in danger. This is directed by Catherine Hardwicke (of TWILIGHT fame, but also THIRTEEN), and is actually a remake of a spanish language film. The supporting cast includes Aislinn Derbez, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Matt Lauria, Ricardo Abarca, and Anthony Mackie. Take a look at the first trailer and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Gloria (Gina Rodriguez) finds a power she never knew she had when she is drawn into a dangerous world of cross-border crime. Surviving will require all of her cunning, inventiveness, and strength.

MISS BALA opens February 1, 2019
