Can’t get enough STAR WARS on the big screen? Never to fear, because Disney and Lucasfilm has a live-action streaming series in the works, helmed by Jon Favreau (IRON MAN) and titled THE MANDALORIAN. For those who don’t know all their Lucasfilm terms, Mandalorians are the race of bounty hunters where the very popular Boba Fett and his father Jango Fett came from, coming from the planet of Mandalore (see EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES). This series is being produced for the Disney streaming service, so you may want to prepare to have that if you’re hoping to see any of it.

And there are already some pretty exciting names attached as directors on this projects, including Dave Filoni (STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS), Deborah Chow (JESSICA JONES), Rick Famuyiwa (DOPE), Bryce Dallas Howard (she’s directed a few short films including SOLEMATES) and the great Taika Waititi (THOR: RAGNAROK), with the series being executive produced by Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson.  This is the official press release:

Production on the first Star Wars live-action streaming series has begun! After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. The series will be written and executive produced by Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau, as previously announced, with Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) directing the first episode. Additional episodic directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). It will be executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer.

And Jon Favreau also posted the following image on Instagram, teasing what fans can expect from the series:

Word has it the show will be a maximum of 10 episodes, with rumor that the budget could be in the $100 million range (meaning about $10 per episode, that would make it one of the most expensive budgets in TV history).  It’s also said the series will be set in between the original STAR WARS trilogy, and the new trilogy that began with THE FORCE AWAKENS, meaning there’s surely possibilities for cameos from certain STAR WARS characters, at the very least some popular droids or other bounty hunters.  Are you excited about this news?  Would you be willing to purchase Disney’s streaming service to see new Lucasfilm content?  Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
