We’re starting to see more and more movies that play off the idea of webcam narratives, meaning the story plays out through people communicating through the lenses of their computer webcams or portable devices. With millennials being so addicted to social media and iPad-like devices, it makes sense this would be a popular format for cinema. The next to give it a whirl is SEARCHING, starring John Cho as a father who is looking for his missing daughter by tracking her digital footprint. The trailer below looks similar to a horror film, though it’s said the movie is more of a thriller like GONE GIRL, and there’s definite similarities from the looks of it. Debra Messing co-stars, and the film is directed by Aneesh Chaganty. Advance word is it’s incredibly effective and intense. Check it out for yourself and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

After David Kim (John Cho)’s 16-year-old daughter goes missing, a local investigation is opened and a detective is assigned to the case. But 37 hours later and without a single lead, David decides to search the one place no one has looked yet, where all secrets are kept today: his daughter’s laptop. In a hyper-modern thriller told via the technology devices we use every day to communicate, David must trace his daughter’s digital footprints before she disappears forever.
