The upcoming Warner Bros. comedy GAME NIGHT has a meta feel that is just crazy enough to work – the idea of friends getting together for a game night, being told the “game” will be a mystery where they won’t know what’s real or fake, and then a real kidnapping of their host takes place right in front of them… only they all assume it’s part of the game they’re supposed to be playing. It almost sounds insane enough to be based on something that really happened, but either way it looks pretty hilarious. The stellar cast includes Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Kyle Chandler, Billy Magnussen, Sharon Horgan, Lamorne Morris, and Kylie Bunbury, and Michael C. Hall (who is playing the bad guy of the story). This is co-directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who wrote SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING and will next be directing The Flash movie FLASHPOINT for the DC movie universe. I got more than a few chuckles here, but it definitely has that HORRIBLE BOSSES and/or OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY feel. Take a look for yourself and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams star as Max and Annie, whose weekly couples game night gets kicked up a notch when Max’s charismatic brother, Brooks (Kyle Chandler), arranges a murder mystery party, complete with fake thugs and faux federal agents. So when Brooks gets kidnapped, it’s all part of the game…right? But as the six uber-competitive gamers set out to solve the case and win, they begin to discover that neither this “game”—nor Brooks—are what they seem to be. Over the course of one chaotic night, the friends find themselves increasingly in over their heads as each twist leads to another unexpected turn. With no rules, no points, and no idea who all the players are, this could turn out to be the most fun they’ve ever had…or game over.
