If you haven’t been picking up the Image Comics title CROSSWIND, now would be a good time to remedy that. Written by Gail Simone and illustrated by Cat Staggs, the series revolves around a Chicago-based hitman and Seattle housewife who switch lives by way of a strange occurrence. Variety is reporting that Canadian-based Entertainment One (also known as eOne) has struck a new multi-year deal with executive producer Vanessa Piazza (of Piazza Entertainment) for some exciting new television projects, one of which will be an adaptation of CROSSWIND. If you’re not familiar with Piazza’s name, she developed and executive produced LOST GIRL and was EP on the first two seasons of DARK MATTER. The partnership with eOne is poised to take her new projects on a more global scale with better exposure, hopefully more than just networks in Canada.
Piazza was quoted to say “I’m thrilled to announce this exciting new partnership. With the recent launch of my company, the partnership with eOne will only strengthen my ability to continue to do what I love, fostering relationships and working with top tier creatives. As a heavy hitter in the international marketplace, eOne’s global footprint will help launch my slate of standout programming for worldwide audiences.”
In addition to CROSSWIND, Piazza will be developing deals with award-winning Canadian novelist Zoe Whittall, and an original superhero tale called MASKED based on the Lou Anders edited anthology series – the latter will feature writing contributions from popular creators who contributed to the book, including Lilah Sturges, Paul Cornell, and Gail Simone. Joseph Mallozzi will serve as showrunner for MASKED.
CROSSWIND is said to be executive produced by Ari Lubet of 3Arts Entertainment, and the pilot episode of the series will be written by Gail Simone, who will also executive produce with Cat Staggs working as a consulting producer for the show. On a personal level, I’ve known Cat now for many years, and seeing her recent success in the industry has been a wonderful thing. We’re very happy to see her newest work get this sort of well-deserved recognition, and are very excited to see how things develop for her and Gail. Ask your local comic shop for CROSSWIND, you won’t regret it.
