Watch a BLADE RUNNER 2049 short film starring Jared Leto directed by Ridley Scott’s son, Luke

If you’re excited about the October release of BLADE RUNNER 2049, get ready to be even more enthusiastic. Director Denis Villeneuve has asked three filmmaker friends to make short stories that bridge the gap between BLADE RUNNER (1982) and BLADE RUNNER 2049 (2017), and the first one just hit the web (courtesy of Collider). It stars Benedict Wong and Jared Leto, and is directed by Luke Scott (son of Ridley Scott, who directed the original film). 2036: NEXUS DAWN explores the origins of replicant mastermind Niander Wallace (Leto), who doesn’t let his blindness keep him from creating technologically advanced beings, even after they’ve been outlawed. The Nexus 9 is his new model, which can be controlled by a human, and made to feel inferior to humans for the purpose of safety, which is displayed in a rather extreme way. Remember, this is just the first of three short films, so stay tuned for more.

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
