Lindsay Lohan will play Linda Lovelace in INFERNO

Let’s face it, Lindsay Lohan’s career has been in a pretty major slump lately.  Her erratic behavior and tabloid-heavy lifestyle has led many major studios to avoid casting her in anything, for fear of the project falling apart.  But now it looks like one particular project may be pursuing Lindsay strongly, and many are already saying this could be the role she’s perfect for… at least at the moment.  The L.A. Times is reporting is indeed set to play 1970’s porn star Linda Lovelace in a film titled INFERNO.  One of the producers of the film, Wali Razaqi, confirmed to the L.A. Times that Lohan has indeed been cast and that an announcement will be made at the Cannes Film Festival, in a move they speculate will hope to draw financing of foreign distributors.  It’s also said that Lohan may even appear at the festival as part of the big announcement, however there’s been no confirmation on that, and with her unpredictable nature, one never knows.

Razaqi was quoted to say “We’ve all thought that Lindsay would be a great choice for a while now, and we’re all convinced that she is going to do it.  For at least a year, the director (Matthew Wilder) and I have gone back and forth imagining how awesome of a performance she could give if she was in the movie.”

As far as what Lohan will actually be doing in the film, the producer was less forthcoming. He did disclose that Bill Pullman is attached to play Hugh Hefner in the movie, which will be based on the real events of Lovelace’s life. The drama will delve into “the difficult stuff she went through and overcame,” he said.

“I would say it’s probably one of the most challenging roles any actor could play — and not because of the sexual content, necessarily — but more because she was so battered and beat up emotionally, that I think it’s gonna take everything Lindsay has to really be able to pull it off,” he said. “Not that Lindsay’s life is similar in any way — but she’s been through a lot of ups and downs. A lot of times you’re loved and then you’re hated, and I think she can relate to those emotions and feelings. One week she’s the ‘it’ girl, and the next, she’s the ‘what are you doing?’ girl.”

Now as out of control as Lindsay has been recently, everyone in Hollywood is capable of a comeback, and this may be her chance.  A role like this could be perfect for here – think Mickey Rourke in THE WRESTLER.  It’s sure to be a daring movie, and one that will certainly garner headlines in entertainment publications.  At one point in time, Anna Faris was rumored to be playing Lovelace in a film, though that’s since ceased to be the case.  I remember hearing Robert Downey Jr. had been cast to play Tony Stark a year or so before the IRON MAN movie came out, and thinking “How perfect is it that they cast an actor with a history of substance abuse to play a comic book hero with a history of substance abuse.”  Casting Lindsay Lohan as one of the most infamous adult film stars of all time may just be a match made in movie heaven… if she can pull it off.
