When John Lasseter created CARS and delivered it to theaters in 2006, it became an instant favorite with many, and was the first Pixar movie outside of TOY STORY to spawn a sequel, though CARS 2 wasn’t received nearly as well when it hit – many felt the follow-up just came across as a soulless cash grab. CARS 3 may make up for that, and from the looks of the teaser trailer below, things are going in a much more serious direction. The third installment is directed by Brian Fee, who has worked on other Pixar movies, including both previous CARS entries, and is now part of Pixar’s Senior Creative Team. Owen Wilson is back as the voice of Lightning McQueen, but little more is known about the vocal cast or story, other than McQueen having a major wreck and being thrown out of the game. It could be assumed the story revolves around him training to get back into racing shape, and proving he’s still got what it takes to be a champion. Check out the teaser below and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician with her own plan to win, inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet, and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
