New A MONSTER CALLS Face Your Fears Day trailer – Liam Neeson is a big friendly giant

Steven Spielberg’s THE BFG didn’t exactly become a hit at the box office, making one wonder if movies about giants mixing with regular people just won’t sell tickets these days, even if they’re based on a classic Roald Dahl story. Today sees the release of a new trailer for A MONSTER CALLS, which is a very different animal, much more emotional and (from all appearances) darker in tone. This comes online to coincide with National Face Your Fears Day. Directed by J.A. Bayona (THE IMPOSSIBLE), this film is also based on a book, and stars Sigourney Weaver, Felicity Jones, Toby Kebbell, Lewis MacDougall, and Liam Neeson as the voice of the monster. I gotta say, this trailer actually got to me a bit, and in a good way. Check it out for yourself and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

A visually spectacular drama from director J.A. Bayona (“The Impossible”). 12-year-old Conor (Lewis MacDougall), dealing with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) illness, a less-than-sympathetic grandmother (Sigourney Weaver), and bullying classmates, finds a most unlikely ally when a Monster appears at his bedroom window. Ancient, wild, and relentless, the Monster guides Conor on a journey of courage, faith, and truth. Toby Kebbell plays Conor’s father, and Liam Neeson stars in performance-capture and voiceover as the nocturnally visiting Monster of the title.

A MONSTER CALLS opens December 23, 2016
