After his work behind the camera on GONE BABY GONE, THE TOWN and ARGO, Ben Affleck has proven himself to be just as strong of a director as he is an actor. His newest effort takes us back to Boston during the Prohibition Era, right in the middle of some crime and corruption. LIVE BY NIGHT is based on Dennis Lehane’s novel, and co-stars Elle Fanning, Zoe Saldana, Sienna Miller, Scott Eastwood, Chris Sullivan, Anthony Michael Hall, Brendan Gleeson, Titus Welliver, Chris Messina, Chris Cooper, Derek Mears and J.D. Evermore. It won’t be released wide in theaters until January, which usually isn’t a good sign, but it’s also getting a limited release in December – a move typically done by the studio to encourage award voting. So far I haven’t been let down by any of Affleck’s directorial efforts, so I’ve got high hopes for this one too. Check out the first trailer below and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Boston, MA – 1926. The ’20s are roaring. Liquor is flowing, bullets are flying, and one man sets out to make his mark on the world. Prohibition has given rise to an endless network of underground distilleries, speakeasies, gangsters, and corrupt cops. Joe Coughlin, the youngest son of a prominent Boston police captain, has long since turned his back on his strict and proper upbringing. Now having graduated from a childhood of petty theft to a career in the pay of the city’s most fearsome mobsters, Joe enjoys the spoils, thrills, and notoriety of being an outlaw. But life on the dark side carries a heavy price.

LIVE BY NIGHT opens in limited release this December and goes wide January 13th, 2017
