New MAX STEEL trailer – Mattel wants to get in on this Superhero movie craze

With superheroes bringing in big bucks at the box office, Mattel has decided to attempt bringing their fan-favorite property MAX STEEL to theaters. In the new trailer below, you’ll see some familiar tropes, but it looks like they’re attempting to make a more family-friendly take on the superhero story archetype. There’s elements of Iron Man, Spider-Man and something like Tron in there, but the big question is whether or not audiences will be accepting of a superhero character that is not Marvel or DC related. While I’ve been somewhat familiar with Max Steel, I admittedly knew so little about it I was kind of surprised to hear it was being made into a live action movie. It also seems like they’ve skewed a little older than expected in the casting, as the main kid looks more like someone graduating high school rather than someone just starting it. The film stars Ben Winchell, Maria Bello, Ana Villafane, Josh Brener (as the voice of Steel) and Andy Garcia (as Dr. Miles Edwards). It’s directed by Stewart Hendler from a screenplay by Christopher Yost. Take a look at the trailer below and give us your thoughts in the comments.

16-year old MAX MCGRATH has just moved to a new town – and is desperately trying to fit in – when he discovers his body can generate the universe’s most powerful energy. Unbeknown to Max, a slightly rebellious and hilarious techno-organic extraterrestrial named Steel has been keeping an eye on him, hungry for his super-human energy. When they finally meet, they discover that together they form MAX STEEL, a superhero possessing powerful strength beyond anything in our world. These two unlikely friends soon find themselves hunted by sinister forces who want to control Max’s powers, as well as an unstoppable enemy from another galaxy.

MAX STEEL hits theaters October 14th, 2016
