88th Annual Academy Awards full winners list for 2016 Oscars vs. our original picks to win

oscars2016-header

The Oscars have come and gone, and this was an interesting year for a variety of reasons.  We saw some very fresh faces among the nominees, of course there was the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, and the show itself was not without the occasional awkward moment.  Chris Rock hosted, and for the most part was quite funny, despite more than a few moments where it sounds like he was tripping over his own jokes.  I’m sure the pressure was on for Rock, as the racial issues going into this Oscars couldn’t be ignored, and yet he still had to keep things light and funny.  One of the most disturbing moments seemed to be a joke in which he introduced Stacey Dash as the new director of their “Minority Outreach Program”, only to have Dash walk out awkwardly laughing while the audience fell silent.  This was a weird choice, as she’s generated a lot of controversy not only for her political views, but her negative view on the black community and problems with diversity.  Chris Rock probably thought this would be a sharp and hilarious surprise, but the whole thing fell flat and really stood out as one of the strangest moments of the night.  Other notable moments included Sacha Baron Cohen presenting a Best Picture nominee with Olivia Wilde, but doing so in character as Ali G (of “Da Ali G Show” fame)… a 15-year-old character known mostly in Britain seemed funny but out of place, especially when introducing a very serious movie.  Vice President Joe Biden received major applause and a standing ovation when he came out as a presenter, and the great Ennio Morricone also got a tremendous response when he won the Best Original Score Oscar.  Check out the full list of winners below, with notations of what we originally picked to win versus the actual winners.  In many cases we predicted things right, but as with most Academy Awards presentations even we had a few unexpected shocks.  Please note, our “picks to win” do not necessarily mean we think they should have won, more that those are what we thought would win based on a variety of factors. Let us know what you think of the results in the comments below!
