If you don’t pay attention to the news, it’s possible you may not remember the horrific story about the 33 San José miners who were trapped underground in Chile in 2010. I remember it well, as those poor men spent 69 days down there before eventually being rescued, rather miraculously. Warner Bros. has released the trailer for THE 33, which comes from director Patricia Riggan, chronicling the event, how the men dealt with being buried alive, and the dramatic rescue attempt to get them out. Sure, we know how it ends, but something tells me there still won’t be a dry eye in the house. The cast includes Antonio Banderas, Lou Diamond Phillips, Rodrigo Santoro, Gabriel Byrne, Juliette Binoche, James Brolin, Mario Casas, Adriana Barazza, Kate del Castillo, Cote de Pablo, and Bob Gunton. Check out the trailer and tell us your thoughts in the comments.
In 2010, the eyes of the world turned to Chile, where 33 miners had been buried alive by the catastrophic explosion and collapse of a 100-year-old gold and copper mine. Over the next 69 days, an international team worked night and day in a desperate attempt to rescue the trapped men as their families and friends, as well as millions of people globally, waited and watched anxiously for any sign of hope. But 200 stories beneath the surface, in the suffocating heat and with tensions rising, provisions—and time—were quickly running out.
