DC Comics and Warner Bros. have been kicking butt with their comic book TV adaptations lately. THE FLASH is a definite hit, as is GOTHAM, and ARROW keeps going strong. Other shows like CONSTANTINE (which may or may not be dead) and iZOMBIE are still finding audiences, but both have solid fan bases as is. One of the newest television projects to come out of the company is a SUPERGIRL series for CBS, which premieres this fall. Check out the six and a half minute sneak preview video below.

Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl is played by Melissa Benoist, and they’re definitely using the idea of her being Superman’s or Kal-El’s cousin. In the show she spends her young adult life on earth not revealing her powers, but at the age of 24 decides to be all she can be. Her adoptive family’s sister Alex Danvers is played by Chyler Leigh. Kara goes to work for Cat Grant, portrayed by Calista Flockhart, and meets The Daily Planet’s former photographer James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), and starts working on the side with Hank Henshaw (David Harewood).

Initial impressions, it looks pretty good, though a little dramatic and obviously intended for a female audience, which is great actually. Let’s hope this opens the doors for more female superheroes to get long-awaited adaptations in both the film and TV realm. Take a look at tell us your thoughts in the comments.

SUPERGIRL is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman’s (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents’ help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret. Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Golden Globe Award winner Calista Flockhart), who just hired the Daily Planet’s former photographer, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), as her new art director. However, Kara’s days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.
