Is Harrison Ford joining Jon Favreau’s COWBOYS AND ALIENS?

I love internet rumors. Sometimes they border upon the insane, and sometimes they’re so plain cool you want them to be true. The concept behind COWBOYS AND ALIENS follows an extraterrestrial species that lands in Arizona in the mid-1800s.  The aliens plan to destroy the Wild West and enslave humanity, but the cowboys and native Apache have other plans.   I’m not a particularly big fan of the C&A comic book, but I see the potential for a killer film, especially when you have Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (TRANSFORMERS 1 and 2) handling the screenplay with a little help from LOST‘s Damon Lindelof, based off an adaptation by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (IRON MAN), and IRON MAN‘s Jon Favreau in the director chair. Robert Downey Jr. was at one point attached to the project, but has since dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Current 007 Daniel Craig and the always sexy Olivia Wilde are on board, and now there’s a rumor that none other than Harrison Ford may be joining the cast as well. LatinoReview received a tip from one of their sources that Ford was going to join a huge comic book film, helmed by a director that’s coming off a soon-to-be-released huge comic book movie. Now granted, that’s still pretty cryptic by internet rumor standards, but LatinoReview usually gets good info. Then Jon Favreau posts the following on his Twitter account:

“Some very cool Cowboys & Aliens casting news coming soon…”

Hmmmm…. I like the idea of Ford doing some more daring roles, and this subject matter could be perfect for him. I also have immense faith in Favreau, and I imagine this project in his hands will have to end up great.  Until there’s confirmation, just consider this a wild rumor, but one that merits attention.  If we hear more, we’ll let ya know.
