FOCUS final trailer – Will Smith goes criminal with WOLF OF WALL ST.’s Margot Robbie

Will Smith has certainly proven himself to be a capable dramatic actor, but we’ve yet to see him in a really seedy story. FOCUS may be the cure for that, in which Smith stars with THE WOLF OF WALL STREET‘s Margot Robbie, playing a con man who gets linked up with the wrong woman – both will soon be seen together again in the DC Comics film adaptation SUICIDE SQUAD. The lead cast for FOCUS has actually changed a few times. At one point CRAZY STUPID LOVE stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone were set to star, then backed out, at which point Ben Affleck and Kristen Stewart were considered… then that fell through. I actually like the idea of Smith and Robbie, so we’ll see where it goes. Check out the final (we’re guessing, since it comes out in a week) trailer below, written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the men behind BAD SANTA and CRAZY STUPID LOVE. The supporting cast includes Rodrigo Santoro, BD Wong, Gerald McRaney, Robert Taylor, and Adrian Martinez. Is this a risky role for Smith, or the perfect change of pace? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Will Smith stars as Nicky, a seasoned master of misdirection who becomes romantically involved with novice con artist Jess (Margot Robbie). As he’s teaching her the tricks of the trade, she gets too close for comfort and he abruptly breaks it off. Three years later, the former flame—now an accomplished femme fatale—shows up in Buenos Aires in the middle of the high stakes racecar circuit. In the midst of Nicky’s latest, very dangerous scheme, she throws his plans for a loop… and the consummate con man off his game.
