I wish I could say I was excited about this, but I’ve always been a little nervous at the idea of Paul Feig’s GHOSTBUSTERS reboot using an all-female cast. It just feels like a stunt move, and as a hardcore fan of the original franchise, I’m not sure anyone really wants this kind of treatment… but maybe he’ll prove me wrong! We’ll see what happens. As of today, we at least know who those ladies will be on the big screen for the project. Feig is perhaps best known as the director of BRIDESMAIDS, which became a surprise hit after having an enthusiastic premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival. He’s brought in two of his cast members from that film, and a few Saturday Night Live actresses to round things out. Your new Ghostbusters will be Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon – though the last three are said to still be in negotiations. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, and the production is looking to film this summer in New York City. which is eyeing a summer shoot in New York. Jones hasn’t had much film work, though recently appeared in Chris Rock’s TOP FIVE. I’m probably most excited about McKinnon, as she’s currently my favorite comedienne on SNL. Ivan Reitman directed the original movie, and at one point was going to be in charge of the reboot before Feig came aboard. No word on whether or not Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson or Bill Murray will cameo, though it wouldn’t be surprising. Harold Ramis sadly passed away last year, which many believe was the catalyst for this female-centric reboot idea to move forward. How do you feel about a GHOSTBUSTERS will an all female cast? And what do you think of these actresses? Let us know in the comments.
