Kodi Smit-McPhee is an actor always worth watching, turning in great performances in films like THE ROAD, LET ME IN, and most recently DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. His newest film comes from first time writer/director Michael Johnson, who may also prove to be a name to watch. ALL THE WILDERNESS may appear to be just another coming of age story, but there’s some strong stylistic choices going on here, and an interesting supporting cast, which includes Danny DeVito, Isabelle Fuhrman, Virginia Madsen, Evan Ross and Hannah Barefoot. It played last year at the South by Southwest Film Festival, but audiences will get a chance to see it this February in theaters Nationwide. Check out the trailer below and see if you’re not intrigued. This is also executive produced by Glenn Howerton, of IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA fame, and that’s definitely a good thing.
James (Kodi-Smit-McPhee) has shut himself off from his surroundings, falling into a world of imagination and darkness. Visits with his psychiatrist (Danny Devito) have proven unhelpful – though he takes a liking to fellow patient, Val (Isabelle Fuhrman). As James begins to rebel against his single mother (Virginia Madsen), he ventures into the night where he meets a mysterious kid (Evan Ross) who welcomes him into an eccentric city. Relationships are put to the test as James navigates unfamiliar territory, wrestling with the reality of his own personal wilderness.
