Sarah Michelle Gellar is back in the VERONIKA DECIDES TO DIE trailer

Sarah Michelle Gellar has been focused on television for more than a few years, even after her days on BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER ended. Series like RINGER and THE CRAZY ONES were solid efforts that sadly didn’t take off, but we haven’t seen any films from her in a while. VERONIKA DECIDES TO DIE is directed by Emily Young (her last film was KISS OF LIFE in 2003), and based on the book by Paulo Coelho, and appears to be the kind of material her fan base might enjoy. This film has actually been in limbo for a few years (the first trailer hit online five years ago!), but will finally hit theaters in January. The cast also includes Jonathan Tucker, Erika Christensen, Rena Owen, Melissa Leo and David Thewlis. While a film sitting on the shelf for years before getting released is usually a bad thing, I will say I’m intrigued by the trailer. Could be a pleasant surprise. Check out the trailer below and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

The story centers on Veronika, a woman in her mid twenties who appears to have everything: good looks, good job and a great life ahead of her. Yet she decides to end her own life. She is unsuccessful and awakens in a mental hospital where she learns that she a short time to live. However in the hospital she meets people who are only ‘insane’ because they don’t always follow society’s rules. With little left to lose, Veronika embarks on a journey on which she frees herself to experience relationships and emotions and ultimately discovers what it means to live.

VERONIKA DECIDES TO DIE is set to open January 20, 2015
