There are some directors I’ll follow blindly when hitting movie theaters, knowing they’ll deliver something worth seeing every time. Jason Reitman is quickly fitting into that category. Some people may have forgot the Reitman’s LABOR DAY was released in January of this year by Paramount, but it will end up being the first of two films he has in 2014. The second, hitting this October, is MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN, which analyzes how technology affects personal relationships for all ages. The impressive ensemble cast includes Adam Sandler, Ansel Elgort, Kaitlyn Dever, Judy Greer, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jennifer Garner and Dennis Haysbert. Check out the first trailer below, which Ansel Elgort premiered on GOOD MORNING AMERICA this week. Looks interesting, that’s for sure, and I love the lack of dialogue here. I just hope it’s not overly gloomy, as that could be a turn off for audiences. Tell us your thoughts in the comments.
MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN follows the story of a group of high school teenagers and their parents as they attempt to navigate the many ways the internet has changed their relationships, their communication, their self-image, and their love lives. The film attempts to stare down social issues such as video game culture, anorexia, infidelity, fame hunting, and the proliferation of illicit material on the internet. As each character and each relationship is tested, we are shown the variety of roads people choose – some tragic, some hopeful – as it becomes clear that no one is immune to this enormous social change that has come through our phones, our tablets, and our computers.
