SCREAM 4 gets a release date – will be directed by Wes Craven

Are you a fan of the SCREAM movies?  Feel like that series never said everything it had to say?  Well, it’s going to get a fourth opportunity to do so.  Dimension Films confirmed that Wes Craven himself will direct the fourth installment, and the movie goes into production in Spring 2010 for a April 12, 2011 release date.  Wait, Spring 2010?  That’s NOW, right?  SCREAM screenwriter Kevin Williamson is writing the fourth film, and also penning a script for a fifth!  He has said the fouth film will reference manga comics, the numerous Asian ghost girl movies, PG-13 horror movies, vampire films, M. Night Shyamalan films, and even the controversial “torture porn” horror films.  So far Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette have all said they’re on board for a fourth installment.  I enjoyed the first two installments, but honestly, I’ve never seen the third outing.  Am I missing much?  I like the players involved, and I think this is a franchise that could easily go on forever, but with the numerous SCARY MOVIE films (which have already outnumbered their franchise of influence) may have detracted a bit from the allure of a SCREAM 4.  Maybe not, I guess we’ll see.  I do think it’s smart of Craven to be on board for this.  Hopefully, this will be a worthy follow-up.  Neve Campbell needs a hit, and I imagine Kevin Williamson wouldn’t mind reminding everyone he’s still around.  I’m up for checking it out.  Are you?  Tell us in the comments below.
