The buddy cop genre has definitely been done to death, but what about two guys pretending to be cops? That’s pretty much the story of LET’S BE COPS, the new comedy starring Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. (both of NEW GIRL fame) as two guys who have stalled out in their 30s looking for something to do. One night they dress up as cops for what they think is a costume party, and suddenly find their calling. But it isn’t long before they have to use their fake authority to save the day… and their own butts. Luke Greenfield (THE GIRL NEXT DOOR) directs, and the cast also includes Nina Dobrev, Andy Garcia, James D’Arcy, Rob Riggle and Keegan-Michael Key. Even after watching the new red band trailer (below), it’s still hard to imagine how this could turn out good for these fellas, but comedies like this usually find a way. Check it out and tell us your thoughts in the comments.

The August 13 release is the ultimate buddy cop movie except for one thing: they’re not cops. When two struggling pals dress as police officers for a costume party, they become neighborhood sensations. But when these newly-minted “heroes” get tangled in a real life web of mobsters and dirty detectives, they must put their fake badges on the line.

LET’S BE COPS opens August 13, 2014
