THEY CAME TOGETHER trailer – Paul Rudd & Amy Poehler poke fun at romantic comedies

If you’ve never seen WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER, you missed a loving nod (and parody) of the summer camp comedies of the early 1980s, and (especially by today’s standards) a truly great comedic cast of future comedians. Director David Wain (who also did ROLE MODELS) is back to poke fun at one of Hollywood’s most tired genres – the romantic comedy. Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd take center stage in THEY CAME TOGETHER, which also features Ed Helms, Cobie Smulders, Max Greenfield and Christopher Meloni. It looks way too familiar and formulaic, but purposely so, and I imagine this may just be the cure for many who are sick of these types of films. Take a look at the poster above and new trailer below and tell us your thoughts in the comments. Think this will be a sleeper hit at the box office?

When Joel (Paul Rudd) and Molly (Amy Poehler) meet, it’s hate at first sight: his big Corporate Candy Company threatens to shut down her quirky indie candy shop. Plus, Joel is hung up on his sexy ex (Cobie Smulders). But amazingly, they fall in love, until they break up about two thirds of the way through, and Molly starts dating her accountant (Ed Helms). But then right at the end…well you’ll just have to see. (Hint: Joel makes a big speech and they get back together.)

From the director of Wet Hot American Summer, Wanderlust and Role Models comes a hilarious and irreverent subversion of the romantic comedy genre.

THEY CAME TOGETHER opens June 27, 2014
