While the name Alejandro Jodorowsky may not be terribly familiar to U.S. audiences, he’s a director worthy of note for a variety of reasons… and not just a director, but an accomplished screenwriter, actor, and even comic book creator. Few people realize the Jodorowsky came extremely close to making a big screen version of Frank Herbert’s DUNE in the 1970s. The new documentary JODOROWSKY’S DUNE explores just how far things got back then, showing rarely seen illustrations and character designs, featuring interviews with concept artists and behind the scenes folks, and even extensive conversation with Jodorowsky himself. Director Frank Pavich has constructed an amazing look inside this forgotten attempt at epic moviemaking. It opens this weekend at Angelika in Mockingbird Station (Dallas) and other select theaters. Back on March 12 we hosted a special advance screening of the film in Dallas, with Frank Pavich in attendance. Check out that Q&A below to find out a little more about the film (apologies for the soft audio). And we want to make sure folks get out to see this film as much as possible, so Bigfanboy.com is giving away some signed full-size posters from the movie, autographed by director Frank Pavich. Just go see the film this weekend (at any theater) and mail your ticket stub to the following address:
