SXSW 2014: Video interview with Nicolas Cage and David Gordon Green for JOE

David Gordon Green is one of those directors who has proven himself in both the independent and mainstream realm. Most know him from movies like PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, which is probably his most high profile work. But the new film JOE is a more haunting and very Southern character piece starring Nicolas Cage and Tye Sheridan (MUD). The story, based on the book by Larry Brown, follows a young boy (Sheridan) who befriends a man with a checkered past (Cage). Soon Joe’s past begins to catch up with him, and may just put himself and his new young friend in serious danger. While not a “big” film in any way, shape or form, JOE ends up being a true showcase for Cage, who is excellent in the role, and proves once again how Sheridan is someone to watch out for. It’s also a solid entry for Green, and (as I say in the video) one of my favorite films so far this year. Check out my interview with both Green and Cage below, two men I’ve wanted to talk to for a long time now. I’m happy to say they didn’t disappoint. At the beginning of the video you’ll head Nic and I talking about the conventions I’m involved with here in town, the Dallas Comic Con, as at our very first show we hosted a giant auction of his personal collection of comics… and yes, I do own a few of those. And yes, that jacket Nic was wearing is as awesome as it looks. My thanks to Grady May for editing this.

JOE is showing on Friday, April 4, at the Dallas International Film Festival at the Angelika in Mockingbird Station at 7pm.

JOE opens in select theaters April 9, 2014
