It looks like one of the final key roles for director Josh Trank’s FANTASTIC FOUR reboot has been filled. Actor Toby Kebbell is said to be 20th Century Fox’s choice for the character of Victor Von Doom aka “Doctor Doom”, the key villain for the superhero team. Variety broke the story, noting other potential condidates including Jack Huston and Domhnall Gleeson. The current cast list already includes Miles Teller (as Reed Richards), Michael B. Jordan (as Johnny Storm), Kate Mara (as Sue Storm/Richards), and Jamie Bell (as Ben Grimm). Fox has not officially commented on this casting news yet, but an official announcement is expected soon.

The story is said to be based on Marvel’s “Ultimate Fantastic Four” series, which varied a bit from the classic Stan Lee/Jack Kirby take, featuring younger characters. In this Ultimate series, Doom is also written differently, and has interesting roots, though it’s not yet known if this film’s version will follow that template exactly. The reboot is scripted by Jeremy Slater and rewritten by Simon Kinberg.

Toby has appeared in films like CONTROL, ROCKNROLLA, PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME, THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE, WAR HORSE, THE EAST and THE COUNSELOR, to name just a few. Kebbell will soon be seen in DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES this summer. THE FANTASTIC FOUR is currently scheduled to hit theaters on June 19, 2015 with a sequel planned for summer 2017.
